Association football, also known as just football, is a common team sport played between a number of teams of eleven players. The game of football has been a part of human beings’ lives since the time they began to play with balls made from wood. The game has a long history and goes through many modifications in different countries and continents across the globe.
To play football, a ball is rolled onto the middle of the goal line, which is marked by a boundary line. The football is passed from one team to the other by two teams simultaneously. The object of the game is to kick the ball towards the opponents’ goal. If the team that kicks the ball scores more goals than the other team, then the team that has scored the most goals wins. However, there are several variations to this game and different countries have different rules according to the culture and society in each country.
The game of football is governed by several laws that were enacted to govern its operation. These laws include the following: the object of the game is for the players to get the ball into the goal; the field is rectangular and the goal is two points; the field cannot be controlled by an individual except by a referee; every player on the playing field must wear a suitable uniform that matches the league; players have to leave the field before the end of the game; if a player sustains an injury during the game then he has to leave the field. The above laws are in place to ensure that the game is fair for all players including the officials. The Laws also state that a foul should not be paid before the ball is touched by a defender.
Aside from being the oldest contact sport in the world, football is also the most popular and most watched contact sport in the world. Millions of people watch football games either on television or on a wide screen TV set. To play football you don’t need any particular skill. Anyone can play football provided he/she has enough passion and energy to play the game. In fact, a layman can actually play the game as long as he can stand up.
The birth of the game can be traced back to Ancient Rome. Europeans would play football during their pajamas, when they were weary and they couldn’t get the sleep they needed. Then football became popular in Europe and America where it was first played professionally. In the middle ages football started to be played internationally, until the World Cup was held in Germany in FIFA 18 tournaments.
In America football was taken to a new level and professional football was created in the United States. The National Football League is the most watched and followed professional football league in the US. The World Cup is held every four years there is an international football tournament also held, which is the Olympics. The popularity of football in America can be gauged from the fact that almost every four years the Americans form a national team for the World Cup and the team always performs well in the tournaments.
