Most casinos are owned by business people who realized that casino gambling could be profitable. During the 1980s and ’90s several American states amended their antigambling laws to permit casinos, including those on riverboats. Other casinos are located on Indian reservations, which are not subject to state antigambling statutes.
The most common casino games are roulette, baccarat and blackjack. Some casinos also feature games of skill, such as poker. These games require a certain level of skill to win, but they still depend largely on luck and probability. Many casinos reward loyal players with complimentary items or services called comps, which can include free hotel rooms, meals, show tickets and limo service. However, something about gambling (probably the presence of large amounts of money) seems to encourage some people to cheat or steal to get an advantage. For this reason, casinos spend a lot of time and money on security.
